IAB Report - Suzuki's only European car plant produces 2.5 million units

Magyar Suzuki of Hungary is the only car manufacturing subsidiary for the Japanese automaker in Europe. On the 9th of July, the 23-year old facility rolled out its 2.5 millionth vehicle.

The milestone car is a facelifted Suzuki Swift GL 5-door variant in a white body color which is powered by the 1.2-litre K-Series petrol engine, equipped with a manual transmission. The car will be sold to a customer in Hungary.

The Suzuki Swift GL 5-door is the 2.5-millionth car to roll out from the Magyar Suzuki plant.

Located in Esztergom, Hungary, the Magyar Suzuki plant celebrated its 20th anniversary and the 2 million units milestone in 2012. The first model to be produced at the facility was the first gen Suzuki Swift (1992) and in 2000, the Suzuki Wagon R and Ignis entered production. The Suzuki Splash (Maruti Ritz) starting rolling out in 2008.

The second gen Suzuki Swift joined in during 2005 while the third gen model entered production in 2010. The plant started producing the Swift Sport variant in 2011 and the new India-bound SX4 S-Cross is the latest car to be made at the Hungarian plant.

The full-fledged factory comprises 5 shops - stamping, welding, painting, assembly and bumper. In addition to exporting cars to Europe, Magyar Suzuki caters to international markets like Japan, Russia, Ukraine, Middle East and North Africa.

In related news, the facelifted Maruti Swift is expected to be launched in India sometime this year.
