BMW India have followed up the launch of the 2014 X5 with a new entry-level variant called 'Expedition'. The X5 Expedition is priced at INR 64.9 lakhs, ex-Showroom, India which is a good INR 6 lakhs cheaper than the regular X5 (which costs INR 70.9 lakhs).

The Expedition X5 retains the mechanical package of the top-end variant, but loses out on features.

The mechanicals are unchanged, so you continue to get the 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel engine making 258 bhp and 560 Nm of torque, hooked to an 8-speed automatic transmission sending power to all wheels with BMW's xDrive technology.

The differences lie in the equipment levels between these variants. Features like a sports gearbox, paddle shifts, LED headlights and foglights, launch control, electric seat lumbar support and folding third row seats have been given a miss.

On the connectivity side, the Expedition X5 loses out on the 600W Harman Kardon system, BMW Apps, Navigation, the 26 cm display with DVD, hard drive and handwriting recognition. Outside, this variant does not get the gloss finished B and C pillars, the Titanium-finished radiator grille and chrome finished tailpipes.

Instead of LED headlights, the X5 Expedition makes do with bi-xenon headlights. A detailed feature comparison can be found in the spec sheet below.
