Indian Autos Blog reader, Mr. Aravind Jayachandran, spotted the next generation Mahindra Bolero on test in the city of Chennai, where the company has its R&D center. The next gen Bolero is due to go on sale next year and is codenamed U301 internally.
Based on a new hydro-formed ladder frame chassis, the new Bolero will likely launch in two length variations: A sub-4 meter variant and a model longer than 4 meters. The smaller of these two would be powered by the Quanto's 1.5-liter three-cylinder diesel engine.
Based on the spy image showing the front fascia, the U301 is likely to get design inspirations from Mahindra's flagship product, the XUV500. The grille seems to sport vertical slats like in the XUV500 and current Bolero. The spare wheel of the prototype is mounted on the tailgate, and we expect this to be seen on the production version as well.
Mahindra's Dr. Pawan Goenka said that the company will launch two new products next year, both catering to the compact UV segment. The U301 will likely be joined by the S101 next year.
