Nepal - Yamaha Alpha to launch by late August

The Yamaha Alpha scooter will launch in the Nepal by August end, a report on the Himalayan Times claims. The Alpha, which is Yamaha's answer to the Honda Activa, was launched in India at the Auto Expo earlier this year.

The scooter is powered by an air-cooled, single-cylinder 113 cc engine which produces 7.1 PS at 7,500 rpm and 8.1 Nm of torque at 5,000 rpm. Yamaha claims an efficiency of 62 km/l for the Alpha which uses a V-Belt automatic transmission.

The Yamaha Alpha which was launched in India at the 2014 Auto Expo, will launch in Nepal by August end.

The Alpha measures 1,795 mm in length, 675 mm in width and 1,124 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 1,270 mm, a ground clearance of 128 mm and a kerb weight of 104 kg. The fuel tank has a capacity of 5.2 liters.

In Nepal, the Alpha would be priced between 150,000 to 160,000 NPR (INR 93,580 to INR 99,800). MAW Enterprises, the authorized distributors of Yamaha in Nepal say that they aim to sell 1,000 units of the Alpha in its first year.

As of April this year, Yamaha said that it had received 14,000 orders for the Alpha. In the near future, Yamaha aims to sell 20,000 units of the scooter in India each month. In India, the scooter is priced at INR 49,518, ex-Showroom, New Delhi.
