VW India have stopped production of the Polo GT TSI and GT TDI variants, according to a report by the Economic Times. Dealers, in metros such as Mumbai, say that they've extinguished stocks of these variants, and that new stock has not arrived as production of these variants have come to a pause.

The production of the current GT TSI and GT TDI have come to a pause.

The logical explanation is that VW have stopped production of the 2013 model year variants, as the refreshed 2014 model year Polo will be launched in the middle of next month. The refreshed Polo brings with it fresher styling, updated interiors and a new diesel engine.

The exteriors of the hatchback get newly designed bumpers with chrome-embellished foglight enclosures up front, and integrated reflectors at the rear. Subtle changes are also carried out to the headlights and grille of the car. Inside, the 2014 Polo will get a new 3-spoke steering along with silver inserts for the centre console and a new font type for the instrument cluster.

Powering the diesel Polo will be a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that could be available in two states of tunes of about 80 bhp and 104 bhp. The more powerful diesel will get the GT TDI branding. The petrol range - 1.2-liter three-cylinder and the 1.2-liter TSI - are expected to continue unchanged.

The GT variants of the Polo, introduced last year, brought new customers to the brand and also put the hatchback in a different spotlight. At the time of their introduction, VW produced about 300 units/month of the GT variants, which had no problems finding customers, and in fact, commanded waiting periods as well.
