The Tata Nano Twist Active was caught on test in Maharashtra recently. The Nano Twist Active adds the convenience of a functional bootlid to the small car, whose luggage area otherwise needs to be accessed by folding down the rear seat. The test mule is identified as the Twist Active thanks to its redesigned rear windscreen.

The Twist Active and Twist F-Tronic are two variants planned on the Nano in the coming months, and aim to reposition the Nano as a smart city runabout. Both cars were shown in the concept form at the Auto Expo, and are announced to enter production "very soon".

On the outside, the new Nano variants will get redesigned bumpers, smoked headlight clusters and redone airdams. Changes on the inside are expected to include a new, and upmarket, 3-spoke steering wheel and better quality inserts for the center console.

The twin-cylinder 624 cc engine is expected to continue unchanged on these cars. However, reports indicate that a more powerful Nano, possibly with a supercharged engine, is in the making.

While the Twist Active would use a 4-speed manual transmission, the Twist F-Tronic which was caught on tests recently, will use a 5-speed automated manual transmission (AMT).
