Autocar India has posted a spyshot of a Skoda Rapid variant testing. The publication learns from sources that it would be marketed as the Skoda Rapid 'Black Edition' and is a few months away from dealers.

Staying devoted to its branding, the Rapid special edition sports black headlights, a glossy black Skoda grille and grille element, mirror caps, 'Comet' black alloy wheels and black foglamp enclosures.

The Rapid 'Black Edition' joins the 'Ultima' special edition launched earlier this year.

Interiors, though not viewable in the photograph, is reported as having a touchscreen audio system and is 'spruced up'. Late last year, Skoda updated the Rapid with a new steering wheel and gear knob, and also aligned the typeface and the logo to the international dictum, and these would be inherited by the special edition.

The report says that the Rapid Black Edition is getting the new 104bhp 1.5-litre diesel engine, and may have the optional seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox. The 1.5-liter four-cylinder diesel engine will debut on the Polo facelift next month.

The Black Edition could mark the end of the current Rapid, as a Rapid facelift in the design theme of the new Octavia is apparently not far off. Skoda India's other special edition this year for this car, the Rapid Ultima, had milder cosmetic differences.
