The Jaguar XE is based on an all new aluminium platform called iQ.

The XE is Jaguar's new entry-level sedan that will rival the likes of the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes C Class, Audi A4 and Volvo S60. It is based on an all new aluminium platform called iQ, and the same architecture was earlier previewed on the C-X17 crossover concept.

Earlier this year, Jaguar teased the sedan by revealing a part of its front fascia. The company also published a camouflaged image of the sedan, showing its overall profile and stance. Based on these images, it appears that the XE will resemble the larger XF in certain areas like the grille, the fenders and the low-slung roof.

The XE will rival the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes C Class and Audi A4 mainly.

Powering the XE will be newly developed four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. The greenest variant of the XE will emit as low as 100 gm of CO2 per km, while the range-topping model with the Jaguar F-Type's 3.0-liter V6 engine would have a top-speed of 300 km/h.

The XE will go on sale in the UK early next year, and an Indian launch could take place sometime in 2015.
