German carmaker, VW, showcased the VW T-ROC concept at the Geneva Motor Show in March this year. The T-ROC previews a future SUV for VW that will slot below the Tiguan crossover.

The VW T-ROC concept was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March this year.

This rendering envisions the production version of the Golf-sized crossover, reported to enter showrooms sometime in 2016-17. Based on the MQB platform, the T-ROC concept measured 4,179 mm in length, 1,831 mm in width and 1,501 mm in height. These dimensions put it on par with the Nissan Juke and Peugeot 2008, two of the crossovers the T-ROC will compete with.

The T-ROC concept was powered by the same engine used on the Golf GTD. A 2.0-liter TDI motor develops 184 PS and 380 Nm of torque and uses a 7-speed DSG transmission and VW's 4MOTION technology to send power to all four wheels.

The concept was capable of accelerating from 0-100 km/h in 6.9 seconds and had a top-speed of 210 km/h. The fuel efficiency claimed by VW was 20.4 km/l, while emissions were rated at 129 g/km. The high efficiency and low emissions are partly thanks to the 1,420 kg kerb weight of the crossover.
