Indian tractor manufacturer Escorts launched its Farmtrac range of tractors in South Africa, at the country’s biggest agricultural show, NAMPO 2014. Prior to its South African launch, the Farmtrac range was launched in Europe last November.
The Farmtrac range consists of tractors between 50 HP to 75 HP and are set to bring about generational change in the tractor markets of South Africa, said the company in a press release.
The Farmtrac Heritage series (6050, 6060, 6075), available both in 2WD as well as 4WD variants, is a mix of Indian engineering and world class designs, says Escorts. The new offering is aimed at driving a revolution in the under-served small HP farm market through competitively priced products.
South African tractor industry today stands at 6,000 units a year which includes tractors up to 450 HP. Out of these, Indian tractors are in the operation range between 35 to 90 HP category. Escorts Limited aims to leverage this segment by their new Farmtrac Heritage product line. This sub 80 HP segment has a total market of roughly 70,000 tractors annually and with Farmtrac, Escorts aims to get 10% market share by 2020.
