The next generation Skoda Fabia is likely to be revealed at the Paris Motor Show in October this year. The Fabia may not use the VW Group's MQB architecture, but instead Skoda's engineers have carried over the current Fabia's platform.

Skoda will not base the new Fabia on the VW MQB platform. Instead, it will use the current Fabia's architecture.

Design wise, the new Fabia is expected to borrow styling cues from the new Octavia and newer Skoda models in general. In terms of exterior dimensions, the new Fabia will measure along the lines of the current model.

Under the hood, Australian website Car Advice reports that the new Fabia will get the same engines as that of the refreshed Polo. If Skoda were to follow the same strategy in India, expect the new Fabia to be powered by a 1.5-liter diesel engine, the 1.2-liter TSI motor and the three-cylinder 1.2-liter petrol engine.

In terms of bodystyles, the new Fabia will be available as a hatchback and wagon, confirmed Skoda Australia's director, Michael Irmer. Irmer did not rule out a possible sedan variant on the new Fabia, though he said that such a model would not find favor in the Australian market.

Hatchback-turned sedans, especially those measuring below 4 meters in length, cater to a growing market in India, and Skoda would do well to get its entry-level sedan out soon. A recent report suggests that Skoda India is indeed considering a sub-4 meter sedan for 2015-16 launch.
