TVS has reportedly began manufacturing its upcoming Star City+ bike at its Hosur facility.

A report on Motorbeam says that the company has begun production of the bike, suggesting that a launch is less than 3 months away. The Star City+ was first shown at the Auto Expo 2014.

TVS showcased the motorcycle at the Auto Expo but did not reveal the powertrain figures.

The bike is a comprehensive makeover compared to the present Star City model. The new version is underpinned by the same frame that hosts the TVS Phoenix 125. Apart from that, the bike is powered by the same 110 cc EcoThrust engine series that powers the TVS Wego and the TVS Jupiter.

The EcoThrust engine has been recently upgraded by TVS R&D department. It is believed that the Star City+ will be the first recipient of this upgraded engine, followed by the TVS Scooty Zest (which could come sooner) and a refreshed TVS Wego. This consolidation is part of the company's mandate to increase parts sharing between its models to save costs.

After a few tumultuous months in sales, the company's sales has been rising in the last 3 months. January 2014 saw its sales rise by 6 percent compared to January 2013. January's rise came on the back of a strong Q3 that saw the company's sales growing to 5.12 lakh units against 5.03 lakh units in Q3 2012.
