Indian Autos Blog reported earlier this year that the Nissan Terrano could launch in the Russian market by the middle of this year. The Russian operations of Nissan had expressed interest in introducing the Terrano in their market, and an official in the Avtoframos manufacturing plant (where the Duster is made for Russia) neither confirmed nor denied this report.

Trial production of the Terrano in Russia is reported to have begun.

This spyshot was taken at the Avtoframos facility in Moscow and shows 3 Terranos standing next to a Logan. Our reader, Oleg, who sent us this tip suggests that trial production of the crossover has already commenced.

While Nissan India is open to exporting the Terrano from the Chennai facility, it makes a better business case to make the car locally in Russia, considering that the Duster is already made there. In fact, even the Avtoframos facility used to make the Duster is listed as a wholly owned subsidiary of Renault (alliance partner of Nissan).

Seen here is the automatic transmission version of the Terrano.

Engine options for the Terrano in Russia could include the 1.5-liter K9K diesel producing 90 PS, a 1.6-liter 102 PS petrol and a 2.0-liter 135 PS petrol.

For Russia, the steering is on the left-hand side.

The Terrano could launch in Russia by August this year, which is when the Moscow Motor Show takes place. What remains to be seen is whether the Terrano in Russia would stand to benefit from the 4WD system found in the Duster. However, we can say for sure that the Terrano will get an automatic transmission variant, as revealed in one of these images. The automatic gearbox will likely be offered in the petrol variants of the crossover.
