A facelift for the Volkswagen Touareg is under works according to major European media outlets and is touted to touch down in Europe towards the end of the year.

The new headlamp, grille and bumper are represented on a sketch by French web portal Automobile-Magazine shown below. The report accompanying the rendering states also confirms redesigned taillights.

A revised interior would see the Touareg get new dashboard materials and a redesigned multimedia system.

The Touareg facelift is likely to be powered by downsized engines, compared to the present Touareg. Like in the Mercedes ML Class and the BMW X5, the SUV will get four-cylinder engines. Two engines that are likely, says the report, are a 2.0-liter TDI engine that makes 184 hp and is found in the VW Golf and a twin-turbo engine that develops 231 hp, potentially replacing the 3.0-liter V6 or filling gaps below it.

Volkswagen hasn't confirmed as to which engine(s) would power the Touareg facelift. In addition, the Touareg hybrid is likely to come in a plug-in hybrid avatar.
