The VW Taigun concept will be shown at the Auto Expo next month, according to Overdrive. The Taigun mini SUV was first shown at the 2012 Sao Paulo Motor Show in Brazil, and as of date, remains a concept car.

The Taigun was first shown at the 2012 Sao Paulo Motor Show.

The concept Taigun is based on the VW Up! small car's platform and measures an Indian friendly 3,859 mm (cars measuring below 4,000 mm in length are eligible for tax breaks in India). Powering the concept was a 1.0-liter TSI engine capable of producing 110 PS of power and 175 Nm of torque.

With a light weight of only 985 kg, the Taigun concept claimed to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 9.2 seconds and achieve a top-speed of 186 km/h. VW said that the small engine would deliver 22.2 km/l on the Taigun.

Since its world debut at the Sao Paulo Motor Show in 2012, VW showed the Taigun at the Buenos Aires Motor Show in June last year, while a few European media got a chance to drive the prototype in July.

Measuring under 4 meters in length, the Taigun would pose a serious threat to the Ford EcoSport.

The production Taigun will compete with the Ford EcoSport and the upcoming Honda Brio-based crossover.

Even if recent reports confirming the production of the Taigun are true, the crossover will not enter production until 2015-16. A report last year claimed that Brazil and India would get top priority for the production of the crossover.
