IAB Report - Honda City mops up 9,000 bookings before launch

Honda Cars India officials said at the press conference to nationally announce the new City today in Delhi that the car had gathered 9,000 pre-launch bookings. The new City is priced between 7.42 lakh to 10.98 lakh rupees for the petrol variants and 8.62 lakh to 11.10 lakh rupees for the diesel variants.

By March 2014, Honda would have 170 outlets in 107 cities retailing and servicing the new City. Another highlight in this launch is the new City makes its world debut in India, a first for Honda.

The City will be launched in 90 markets around the world.

Honda has improved almost every aspect of the City compared to its predecessor. The wheelbase is up by 50 mm, the height has increased by 10 mm, whie other exterior dimensions remain the same. Inside, the shoulder room is expanded by 40 mm, and the headroom at the front is improved 10 mm.

The City diesel is powered by the Amaze's 1.5-liter EarthDreams diesel engine which produces 100 PS at 3,600 rpm and 200 Nm of torque at 1,750 rpm, matched to a 6-speed manual transmission. The car's fuel efficiency is pegged at 26 km/l, the best for any car in India.

The City petrol is powered by a 1.5-liter petrol engine which produces 119 PS @ 6,600 rpm and 145 Nm @ 4,600 rpm, returning a fuel efficiency of 18 kmpl on the AT and 17.8 kmpl on the manual version.
