This VW Golf was spotted in the city of Bangalore by a Team BHP member. VW has no plans to launch the Golf in India, and we suspect this vehicle is being used by a component manufacturer for their own internal testing and evaluation, or by a competitor for benchmarking of components.
In India, the Golf would be pretty expensive to make and a bit difficult to position as well. VW may have to position the Golf in between the Vento and Jetta in India, which is a segment currently dominated by crossovers and SUVs. Measuring 4.25 meters in length, the Golf will not be eligible for the Indian small car excise benefits, and the cost to structurally modify the car will run into hundreds of millions of Euros, an adventure the sensible will skip.
Seen in these images is a Golf TSI BlueMotion, which comes equipped with a 1.4-liter turbocharged petrol engine. This engine is available in two power states of 120 hp and 138 hp. The drive is sent to the front wheels via a 7-speed double-clutch transmission.
Most recently, VW commenced sales of the Golf Sportsvan in Germany. The Sportsvan replaces the Golf Plus variant, and at 4.34 meters in length, offers more space than the standard Golf. While prices for an entry-level Golf start at 17,175 euros (INR 14.65 lakhs), the Sportsvan has its starting price at 19,625 euros (INR 16.74 lakhs).
