Isuzu Motors India showed its first India-made MU-7 in Chennai this afternoon.
The locally-made MU-7 is priced at Rs 22.3 lakh for the BS IV model and Rs 22 lakh for the BS III model (both ex-Showroom, Hyderabad.) The MU-7 was launched in India in December last year at 23.75 lakh rupees (previously a CBU from Thailand).
Isuzu’s officials at the launch event confirmed that the MU-7 is being pitted as competition against the likes of the Toyota Fortuner. Manufactured at Hindustan Motors’ facility outside Chennai, the MU-7 will be made available at 8 dealerships in South India soon.
Within a 60 day period, Isuzu plans to open dealerships at Chennai, Tirupati, Vishakapatnam, Madurai, Cochin and Bangalore, in addition to the existing dealerships at Coimbatore and Hyderabad. This number will further expand to 60 by the end of 2015-16.
The company also launched one of its customer care initiatives, Isuzu Insights, along with the MU-7.
According to the company, owners of Isuzu vehicles can approach their local dealer with the vehicle and get feedback from the service technicians. Isuzu’s service technicians will connect the car to their diagnostic software and acquire information on various parameters like idling time, speed, mileage, etc. Based on these reports, they will prepare individual reports for each customer, advising them on how to improve on these parameters in order to extract the best out of their vehicles.
