VW India launched the Vento TSI exactly a month ago. Powered by a turbocharged petrol engine and mated to a modern 7-speed DSG transmission, the VW Vento TSI was making the Vento AT seem a generation old (and overpriced) which has ultimately led to its discontinuation.

The Vento TSI made the Vento AT feel overpriced and a generation old.

Buyers on the lookout for a Vento with an automatic transmission will now have to go in for the TSI, which is being offered in a single Highline variant only. But the good news is that you don't need to spend a whole lot more: The Vento AT costed INR 9.8 lakhs, whereas the Vento TSI costs INR 9.99 lakhs (all prices ex-Showroom, New Delhi).

Where the Vento AT used the naturally aspirated 1.6-liter 105 PS engine, the TSI gets a 1.2-liter turbocharged engine outputting the same power, but a much higher torque of 175 Nm compared to the AT's 153 Nm. While the Vento AT used a conventional 6-speed automatic gearbox, the TSI gets the quick-shifting 7-speed dual clutch transmission.

The DSG unit is quicker and more efficient than the AT's traditional slushbox.

As a result, the TSI is not only quicker and faster than the AT, it is also more efficient with an ARAI rated fuel efficiency claim of 16.93 km/l as against the AT's 14.4 km/l.

Since the Vento TSI gets the DSG transmission, additional features such as ESP (Electronic Stability Program) and Hill Hold assist are added as well.
