The 2014 Nissan Qashqai was unveiled by Mr. Carlos Ghosn in London yesterday.

Nissan's Sunderland plant in the UK will build the Qashqai, which is a big name in the European crossover market. Since its launch in 2007, Nissan have sold 2 million units in the continent.

Some of the new features include all-LED headlights, active grille shutter system, dual floor luggage compartment, double piston shock absorbers, EPAS and Hill Start assist.

The new Qashqai is the second Nissan model (after the X-Trail) to be underpinned by the CMF Platform.

The Qashqai is presented in two petrol and two diesel engine options.

The 1.2 DIG-T (turbo) produces 115 PS and 190 Nm. It is paired to a six-speed manual transmission, and replaces the naturally aspirated 1.6-liter engine. The 1.6 DIG-T (turbo) produces 150 PS and 240 Nm and is mated to the same six-speed transmission.

The Qashqai is available with 1.2L and 1.6L petrol engines, and 1.5L and 1.6L diesel engines.

Coming to the diesels, the first option is the familiar 1.5-liter dCi that produces 110 PS, and an extra 20 Nm of torque over the outgoing model for better in-gear flexibility. Nissan reports that the engine is quieter during operation, develops lower vibrations, and the weight of the engine is reduced as light-weight materials are used in its construction. Like the 1.2-liter petrol, this engine is fitted with a start-stop system.

The final engine option is the 1.6 dCi that makes 130 PS of power. It is available in both manual and automatic variants, as well as in two- and four-wheel drive modes.
