BMW India has issued us an invitation to the launch of the BMW 5 Series facelift which is to be held on the 10th of October. The company has taken hardly a few months to launch the update, since the time it was available in Europe.

Front of the 2014 BMW 5 Series LCI
The front-end is differentiated by new air intakes, foglights and kidney grille.

The 5 Series LCI is a gentle cosmetic enhancement lending the front-end new contour lines around the kidney grille, new bumper, foglamps and a chrome element right above it.  The rear is differentiated with new taillamps, a chrome strip and new reflector units on the bumper. BMW claims to have improved the car's aerodynamic drag coefficient to 0.25.

There are just two differences to the interior which are the inclusion of a chrome boundary on the multimedia display, and a touch-sensitive input pad for the iDrive infotainment system.

Mild changes to rear include a differently contoured stoplight and new reflector units on the bumper.

Arriving at the features, Xenon headlights are standard on all models and Adaptive LED Headlights are optional. The foglights are LED units and the outside mirrors get integrated indicators. It remains to be seen if the configuration for India is identical.

Identifyable changes to the cabin are the chrome boundaries to the in-dash LCD screen and a gesture-sensitive iDrive input pad.

Mechanically, all engines, without changes to displacements, for Europe were upgraded to meet Euro 6 emission standards. Certain engines also gained a 'coasting mode' that automatically disengages the powertrain during coasting for better fuel efficiency. We aren't sure at this time about the mechanical changes of the 5er facelift for India.
