According to a report on Autocar India, Mahindra Reva is building a more powerful Mahindra e2o for the European markets. To be launched first in Europe, the higher spec e20 could come to India later.

Some readers would remember that the e2o made its global premiere at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show as the Reva NXR and a pre-booking amount of 500 euros was collected from many customers, only to be refunded later. The company was acquired by Mahindra in 2010, and the original European sales plan was quelled.

A few high-performance electric powertrain options are also reportedly under development. These powertrains are in the mid (67-81bhp) and high (107bhp+) categories. Select motors are being jointly developed by engineers from both camps, Mahindra and Reva. The high performance motors would pull larger vehicles like SUVs and trucks. The biggest Mahindra prototype to be operated by battery yet is the Maxximo, shown at the Delhi Auto Expo of 2010.

The e2o has been a very slow seller for Mahindra and hence the company is devising new retail strategies such as permitting prospective buyers to use the car before they purchase, to make them understand the car's value proposition.
