Apart from facelifts and next generation cars, BMW is also working on filling up the gaps that exist in its current product portfolio.
The BMW X4 is one such example which, as its name suggests, will slot between the X3 and the X5. Unlike models that sandwich it, the X4 will be inspired by the X6 and will feature a coupe like profile.
The 'BMW Concept X4' was unveiled at the Auto Shanghai in April. The production version of the car is due sometime in 2014.

From the leaked components you can deduce that the X4 will feature BMW's current design language which is characterized by sleek headlamps that merge with the signature kidney grill. The roofline takes a plunge past the B-pillar to end up in a steeply raked rear windshield. The 'L' shaped taillights adopt the new blade design. In other words, the X4 is a baby X6 with the new BMW face.
Powertrain options are likely to come from the new BMW X3 which is powered by 2.0- and 3.0-litre petrol and diesel engines. These will be paired to an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
