BMW has announced that the 2014 BMW X5 has just commenced production. The SUV is built at the brand's Spartanburg facility located in South Carolina, USA.
Since 1999, BMW has made 1.3 million units of the X5 at this facility with the second generation X5 contributing 728,107 units between September 2006 and June 2013. The final unit of the second generation model would head to BMW's historic car collection.
Coming back to Spartanburg, this facility will export the X5 to more than 140 worldwide markets. When BMW India decides to launch the new X5, (which should happen sometime next year) Spartanburg will ship the cars over.

The first 2014 X5 was a Mineral White M50d with a six-cylinder inline diesel engine sporting M Performance TwinPower Turbo technology. Featuring Nappa Mocha leather interior, it will be exported to a dealer in Eastern Europe.
The car will be made with three engine options initially - a X5 xDrive50i with a V8 petrol engine producing 450 hp, a X5 xDrive30d with a six-cylinder in-line diesel unit good for 258 hp and a X5 M50d M Performance with a tri-turbo six-cylinder in-line diesel generating 381 hp.
From December 2013, the X5 xDrive40d, X5 xDrive35i, X5 xDrive25d and the X5 sDrive25d will be added to the lineup.
