Skoda is certainly on a roll! Only yesterday did the Czech car maker celebrate their 11 millionth engine since 114 years of inception.
News comes today from Skoda in China. Skoda has just produced its one millionth car in the country. The milestone comes after the Shanghai Volkswagen joint venture commenced production in 2007.
The milestone car is a white color Skoda Rapid with a 1.6-liter petrol engine.
China is a key market for Skoda with reports even indicating that future Skodas would be influenced by the Chinese market. In 2012, China accounted for nearly 25% of Skoda's worldwide sales of 939,200 units. And in the first six months of 2013, Skoda has sold 120,200 cars in China.
Skoda is looking to expand their portfolio from the current three models to six models by mid-2014. Currently the Skoda Fabia, Octavia and Superb are being joined by the Rapid Xin Rui, the Yeti and the Superb Combi. Local production of the Skoda Yeti is due to commence soon with local translations in design.
And coming back to the China specific modifications Skoda has made, the Rapid Xin Rui has been given plenty of chrome elements, both inside and outside and comes with a total of nine option packages for the trims/variants.
Skoda CEO Winfried Vahland said -
We are definitely going for more growth in China, reinforcing our model offensive and expanding our capacities. We intend to raise our sales in China to half a million cars per year. Shanghai VW is a dependable and competent partner with whom we will continue to write ŠKODA’s success story in China in the years to come.
