Fiat 500 celebrates its 56th birthday

On July 4, 1957, Fiat launched what would be the world's first city car. Whether you are a car lover or not, you would have heard about the Fiat 500, launched as a major step in the revival efforts of Fiat after the conclusion of the second world war.

The rear engined hatchback that is a size of shoe was powered by a 479cc engine. The 2.9 meter long city punter weighed just 500 kilograms!

By the time production ceased 18 years later in 1975, Fiat had built 3.89 million units of the 500 and an extra ordinary heritage. Exactly 50 years after production began of the original 500, Fiat launched the stylistically inspired 21st century 500 to start a new chapter in the life of the Italian icon.
