Europe – 2014 Skoda Rapid gets minor refreshments, 90PS 1.6L TDI engine
As a toddler, those wheeled machinery fascinated me even before I knew what they’re called as! So here I’m, petrolhead by birth, Mechanical engineer by qualification and automotive reporter by profession!
The 2014 model year of the European Skoda Rapid which comes with a few minor refreshments has been revealed ahead of its market launch on August 5.
The 2014 Skoda Rapid will get an entry level version of the 1.6 litre TDI diesel engine which produces 90PS of power. The motor will be mated either to a 7-speed dual clutch automatic of a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The engine will be also available in a GreenTec variant which emits just 104 g/km of CO2 while delivering a fuel economy of 25.64 kpl, thanks to fuel saving measures and Start/Stop mechanism. The current engine lineup which includes a range of TSI petrols and TDI diesels will be carried forward.
Cosmetically, the 2014 Skoda Rapid will now be available with Xenon headlamps as optional extra. The interior gets new three spoke steering wheel, and new decorative trim materials. There will be four decorative trim options – Graphite-Metallic, Silver Brushed, Piano White and Piano Black. The music system controls and layout will be modified depending on the variants.
The rest of the car is expected to stay the same. The Rapid was the first Skoda to get the brand’s new corporate identity and that means there is nothing to change on the car’s sheet metal parts.
