Nissan has announced that the 2013 Nissan Note will be built at its facility in Sunderland in the UK.
The largest car maker in England developed its latest B Segment contender at the Nissan Technical Centre Europe (NTCE) in Cranfield, UK. The Sunderland plant underwent modifications in the layout and some inclusions of new testing equipment to facilitate the production of the new Note were also made.
The cars produced at the plant will cater to the demand from the European markets. According to the company, the move has added 2,000 additional jobs. Apart from the final assembly, the facility also manufactures axles, cylinder heads, camshafts and petrol engines for the new hatchback.
The new Note will be built alongside the Nissan Juke compact crossover. Later, the duo will be joined by a new compact vehicle from the Infiniti brand.
The New Nissan Note is powered by a 1.2 liter petrol engine (same as the Nissan Micra) which develops 79bhp. A supercharged version of the engine is also available with a power output of 97bhp. The diesel option is the familiar 1.5 litre K9K engine sourced from Renault.
The Nissan Note will lock horns with established rivals like the VW Golf and the Ford Focus. Come 2014, the next generation Honda Jazz will join the competition.
