The Indian two wheeler major TVS has commenced its operations in Myanmar.
After the end of the military rule, the conditions in Myanmar have now become conducive for foreign investments. TVS is one of the first two wheeler makers to tap this opportunity.
Business Line reports that TVS has inaugurated its first dealership in Mandalay. The dealership was inaugurated by R. Ramakrishnan, Director, TVS Motor and Mr. I. Kyaw San, road transport minister of Myanmar.
TVS will sell seven two wheeler models in the country. The TVS Apache RTR160, Wego, Scooty Pep+ and the Scooty Streak will be shipped from India while stepthrough motorcycles like the TVS Neo, Rockz and Tormax will be imported from Indonesia.
TVS says that the dealership personnel in Mandalay were given a thorough training on assembly and service of all the models before the launch. It is reported that dispatch of the vehicles has already begun in Myanmar and there is a good initial response.
As a goodwill gesture, TVS has presented the Mandalay police department with 10 Apache RTR160 motorcycles complete with patrolling equipment.
TVS is hoping that it will get the first mover's advantage in Myanmar. We could see more such Myanmar invasions by Indian automakers in the future.
