The iconic Porsche 911 turns 50 this year. As part of the anniversary celebration, the German sportscar maker has announced a limited edition model called the Porsche 911 50 Years Edition.

The original Porsche 911 (initially called as the 901) debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1963 and went on to etch a permanent place for itself in sportscar history.

Over the years, the car's timeless silhouette has hardly changed. The 911 50 Years Edition will make its public debut at the very same Motor Show as its ancestor, the Frankfurt Motor Show on the 12th of September 2013.

The special edition car is based on the Porsche 911 Carrera S. The anniversary car will feature a wider body sitting on a rear wheel drive chassis. The car is 44mm wider than the standard 911 Carrera S across the wheel arches.

To distinguish the 50 Years Edition from a regular car, Porsche has included bespoke chrome strips on the cooling vent of the engine cowl. A pair of chrome strips run between the taillights. These are complemented by chrome trimmings in the front air intakes. The 20" alloy wheels finished in matte black with machine polished centres are unique too.

The Porsche 911 50 Years Edition comes in two color options - Graphite Grey (dark) and Geyser Grey (light). The anniversary cars will have "911 50" 3D badges on the engine lid. The logo is embroidered on the head restraints and can also be seen on the rev counter and the door sills.

The interior gets retro touches like green labeling on the instruments with white pointer needle. The sports seats are 14-way electrically adjustable. The door pads, dashboard, centre console and the gear lever are trimmed with brushed aluminium.

The Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) with a special tuning to suit the wider track is included in the package and so are the Porsche sports exhaust system, Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) with limited slip differential and Porsche Communication Management.

Power is derived from a 3.8 litre flat six petrol engine which produces 400bhp. The motor coupled to the PDK dual clutch transmission can accelerate from 0-100kph in just 4.3 seconds and can reach a top speed of 296kph. The car has a NEDC combined fuel consumption of 32.5 mpg (around 11.4kpl).
