Economic Times reports that the updated luxury sedan will be launched in India on June 25, as revealed to them by Mr. Eberhard Kern, the Managing Director of MB India.

Mercedes then is reasonably quick in bringing the E Class facelift here. Fierce competition from Audi and BMW has obviously forced the automaker to make the swift move.

While BMW and Audi started their 2013 onslaught at the very beginning of the year, Mercedes waited till May for its first product launch, the new GL Class. However, the German giant quickly followed it up with the A Class which has garnered an impressive 400 bookings in just 10 days, the best ever initial response for any Merc in India!

The renovated saloon ditches the signature E Class twin headlamp unit for an amalgamated one, but the detailing and the LED daytime running lights are designed in such a way to mimic the twin light setup. The grill, bumper, bonnet and fenders have also been redesigned.

The rear of the car features reprofiled taillights and a new exhaust tip. Interiors get minor improvements like a new steering wheel, revised instrument console and an updated COMAND multimedia infotainment system.

The India spec car will retain its variant and powertrain lineups but Start/Stop system will be available as standard across the range. Just as the current model, the 2014 E Class will be assembled at Mercedes' Chakan facility off Pune. Expect a slight inflation in the price tag.

The launch of the E Class facelift in India would make the BMW 5 Series the oldest of the German gang. However, the 2014 BMW 5 Series has just been unveiled and BMW India will be compelled to bring its updated saloon here at the earliest.
