Ford EcoSport’s mega global media drive to be held in Goa this month
I’m fanatical about two things in this world: 1. Automobiles 2. Motor Racing.
Ford is taking forever to unveil the EcoSport in India and thankfully the wait is expected to end in the next few weeks.
The compact sports utility vehicle has been a success for the American manufacturer in the markets where it has already launched the car. With 100 markets to tap into, the EcoSport is looking to book a spot in 2014’s ten top selling SUVs of the world.
The entry level SUV, manufactured at Ford’s Chennai factory in LHD and RHD configs, will ship to markets around the world including ones in the European Union from late 2013.
And that’s why the global media test-drive program for the car’s right hand drive markets will be conducted in India this month.
Industry professionals and media experts will gather in Goa this month for the global test-drive event that spans across two weeks. Around 150 people would take part in it including media representatives from India, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Taiwan. This is the first time an auto maker is conducting a media drive of such proportions in India and Indian Autos Blog has also been invited to the party!
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Mr. Joginder Singh, president and managing director of Ford India said: “We are hosting one of India’s most comprehensive and largest product ride and drive programmes with more than 150 participants from markets including India, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Taiwan and our dealer principals from across the country driving the Chennai-built EcoSport across two weeks.”
The booming personal utility vehicle segment, with fewer players, is able to change the status quo of companies that have acted early, and for Ford the EcoSport could be a game changer for the same reason.
Ford makes the EcoSport in China and Brazil, and the capacities are mostly utilized for serving those domestic markets. Ford will roll-out the SUV from its Thailand plant shortly as well.
