Skoda launches the Octavia Combi 4×4
As a toddler, those wheeled machinery fascinated me even before I knew what they’re called as! So here I’m, petrolhead by birth, Mechanical engineer by qualification and automotive reporter by profession!
The Skoda Octavia Combi 4×4 is the latest addition to the new Octavia family.
The all wheel drive station wagon comes equipped with a Haldex-5 clutch, making it suitable for for slippery roads and gradients. The new Skoda Octavia Combi 4×4 will be available in two trim levels – Ambition and Elegance.
Skoda claims that the application of fifth generation of the Haldex all wheel drive system has reduced the fuel consumption by an average of 14% compared to the previous Octavia Combi 4×4. The estate is available with a choice of three engines – a 103hp 1.6 litre TDI diesel, a 148hp 2.0 litre TDI diesel and a 177hp 1.8 litre TSI turbo petrol. The diesel engines are available with a 6-speed manual transmission while the petrol motor is paired to 6-speed DSG automatic.
The all wheel drive system sends most of its power to the front wheels under normal operating conditions. The rear axles come into picture only if necessary and till then it is disengaged by an electronic clutch pre-control device to improve economy. To further improve the capability of the car, both the front and rear axles boast Electronic Differential Lock (EDL).
The market launch of the new Skoda Octavia Combi 4×4 will commence in June. It is unlikely that Skoda will consider the Combi for India since the estates are poorly received in our market.
