Icona Who? You ask. Founded in 2010, Icona is a Shanghai-based Italian boutique carmaker and design house.

Icona has presented a supercar called Vulcano built to showcase Icona’s design skills and some new automotive technologies, particularly those concerning its V-12 powertrain.

It features a front-mounted V-12 that is paired with an electric system that develops an excess of 900 horsepower which is basically Mclaren P1 and LaFerrari territory.

Icona doesn't specify how the electric motors are used and doesn't refer to the car as a hybrid. Initial performance estimates 0 to 200km/h in under 10 seconds and a top speed of around 350 km/hr.

This V12 engine is developed by Claudio Lombardi, a successful motorsport engineer who oversaw many of Lancia’s World Rally Championship victories during the 1980s and Ferrari’s Formula One powertrain development during the 1990s.

The design of the car was the responsibility of Samuel Chuffart - a French designer who has previously worked for Nissan, Jaguar Land Rover and Stile Bertone.

This is Icona’s second attempt at a concept car. The previous one was called the Fuselage concept which was an all-electric, gullwing-doored four-seater showcased at the Auto Shanghai 2011. In fact, Icona claims that Vulcano is an evolution of the design language first seen on the Icona Fuselage concept.
