When Chevrolet decided to revive the iconic Camro in 2009, they had no idea how it was going to be embraced world over.

2014 Chevrolet Camaro teaser

Originally conceived in 1966 to compete against the Ford Mustang, the Mustang outsold the Camaro in a 3:1 ratio. Four generations later, GM was still struggling to convince its buyers. In 2002, owing to poor sales and a deteriorating market for sports coupés, the Camaro brand was sent packing.

Looking at the return of muscle cars such as the Ford Mustang, Dodge Charger and the Challenger in the mid-2000's, GM resurrected the Camaro in 2009. A mouth-watering design, imaginative interior and some marketing trickery such as securing a prominent role in the Transformers franchise turned out to be the magic formula. The Camaro was suddenly outselling the iconic Ford Mustang. Mission Accomplished!

It has been four years since the new Camaro hit the market and thus its time for a facelift. The need for a facelift is more pressing now because Ford’s fully re-designed Mustang is expected next year and an all-new Camaro is not expected anytime before 2016.

GM has teased the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro slated to make its public debut on the 27th of March at the New York International Auto Show. The image shows us the new, slightly thinner grill. You will also notice the SS badge which means that New York may not have the base V6 or the high-performance Camaro ZL1 on view.

The outgoing Corvette’s 7.0-liter LS7 V8 will be offered in the 2014 Camaro on the highest trim level. This motor has the capability to crank out 505 horsepower. The existing 3.6-liter V6 and 6.2-liter V8 engines will continue serving the Camaro range. The all new LT1 V8 from 2014 Corvette will not be dumped under the hood of the Camaro just yet.

A host of interior upgrades are expected in the 2014 Camaro including the new MyLink infotainment system. We might see some LED's to its exterior which is a norm for facelifted models. Prices are expected to start below USD 50,000.

Stay tuned for more details.
