Honda Brio Amaze rear viewThe Honda Amaze is a hot launch of this year for a lot of reasons. Firstly, it will be the Japanese car maker's first ever diesel offering in India. Another reason being that it will compete in the cut-throat sub-4 meter segment.

Just to give you an idea of how important this segment really is for the manufacturers, there will be at least two other sub 4 meter cars being launched in the first half of this year - The Ford EcoSport and the Mahindra Verito CS.

So when would Honda launch the Amaze sedan? And before we forget, Honda WILL be calling it as the 'Amaze' and not 'Brio Amaze'. Unlike Maruti, Honda doesn't seem to want to include the donor car's name in the badging in the Indian market.

Motor Vikatan, a leading Tamil car magazine, says that April 18 is the day Honda would launch the Amaze. They seem pretty confident and specific about the date as well.

We also believe that would be the time Honda would launch the car. Honda's website and social media channels have also been publicizing the car in depth of late.

To give you a recap of what to expect, the Amaze is the 'booted' version of the Brio. It would be available with a 1.5-liter diesel engine whose power, torque, acceleration etc., figures we don't know, as Honda has been very secretive about it.

The 1.2-liter petrol from the Brio hatch is expected to power the petrol version of the car as well. Honda has the option of pairing the petrol motor to a 5-speed AT, whether they execute this operation or not is another big question.

The Brio Amaze's main competitor is the Maruti Swift Dzire which is India's best selling sedan.
