Made In China Skoda Rapid debuts in April

Auto.ifeng.com reports of the production ready, Made in China Skoda Rapid is scheduled to grace the Shanghai Auto Expo during April. The report suggests that the car looks identical to the European version, leaving out a few minute differences.

The main differences is to the dimension of the China made Rapid. The length of the car is 4,501mm (EU version at 4,483mm), however the wheelbase has increased only marginally from 2,602mm to 2,603mm. The breadth of the car remains the same at 1,706mm while the height sees a marginal increase from 1,461mm to 1,469mm. The Chinese version weighs 1,160kg  as against the 1,140kg of the European version.

Also for the Chinese market, the alloy wheel's design is a bit different with a 'V' shape to them. And while the car is going to be called the Rapid, the badging on the boot lid is in Chinese.

While the interior is identical to the EU version, the quality of the materials used is not as good as the international version, says the report.

The China made Rapid, is in conjunction with the Shanghai-VW partnership. It shares its underpinnings with the Shanghai-VW Santana and the FAW-VW Jetta.

Engine options would include a 1.5-liter 89bhp or a 1.6-liter 109bhp engine mated to a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic.

The China made Rapid is expected to be priced at about CNY 80,000 (INR 6.9 lakhs).
