The Figo will take its public bow at the salon d’Oran Autowest 2012 if the distributor does not face problems with approval. Apart from India, the Figo has been launched in 35 overseas markets, and Algeria most likely is the 36th. Ford has planned to take Figo to 50 markets. Over 2.4 lakh units of the car have been sold in India and abroad.

The Indian connection to the Algerian Figo launch, if you are in the dark, is that the Figo is manufactured only in India at Ford's Chennai plant. It is based on the 5th generation Fiesta hatchback. Engineers in Australia, India and Germany worked on the car, endowing it with a new skin, a new set of engines and re-did some parts of the interior. Ford recently introduced a refreshed Figo with 140 changes improving the car with market inputs. Exports of this model has also started with South Africa making first use of it.

The Algerian market gets the Figo in one trim, with all the bells and whistles such as front airbags, ABS, manual air conditioning, electric windows, electrically adjustable mirrors, central locking and a height-adjustable seat. A 16-valve Duratec 1.2L petrol engine developing 75 hp associated with a 5-speed manual transmission motors the car.

AutoAlgerie.com expects Ford to position the Figo at around 1,100,000 Algerian Dinar (7.65 lakh rupees).
