Chevrolet Cruze WTCC Edition celebrates Chevy’s success in World Touring Car Championship
Kaustubh Shinde, They say sooner or later your passion finds you. Sometime in late 2009, I started writing for IAB and ever since then it has been a roller coaster ride for me. An amazing experience that has taught me a lot, taken me to new places, driven some great cars and met some amazing people. When you don't find me on IAB (very rarely), you will find me either at a coffee shop or an eatery or at the nearest gadget store.Hope you enjoy IAB as much as we do!
The popularity of World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) may not be compared with the likes of Formula1 and WRC but the action in this racing series in unparalleled. Started long back in 1987, the WTCC has gained considerable fan-following in the recent years.
The king of the hill in WTCC is definitely Chevrolet which has won the Constructors and Driver Championships three times in a row. To celebrate this success, Chevrolet has launched the Cruze WTCC Edition in China.
Well, one of the race of the WTCC was held at the Shanghai F1 Circuit which is the home of Shanghai-GM. As this race was won by Chevrolet, Shanghai-GM wants to celebrate the occasion.
But we think that the real reason behind this special edition is the fact that the year is ending and there may be a few units of the Cruze left in the stockyard. Thus, some marketing gimmickry is quite essential to avoid the one year depreciation.
