What you see here are the first spyshots of the 5 Series facelift for the Chinese domestic market, which should launch not before September 2013.

The 5 Series LCI, with mildly recast bumpers and remodeled lights should make its first international public appearance at the Frankfurt Motor Show next year.

The changes in the Chinese market 5 Series are consistent with the international test mules. The marked change could be the new kidney grille that flows into the headlights (recall the 3 Series).  If not, BMW can go with the squared angel eye headlights like the ones seen on the new 6 Series.

Likewise the taillights sport minor changes and the rear bumper is redesigned to synchronize it with the front bumper. BMW may select different trim and leather options and the electromechanical steering unit could undergo a redesign to introduce more driver feel.

Other details are not clear at the moment. BMW may bring updates to its current engine range. They are all matched to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

We don't expect to see the 2014 BMW 5 Series in India before the next Auto Expo. However rival Mercedes Benz, confirmed the E Class facelift for 2013, while the Audi A6 is still fresh from its late 2011 arrival.

BMW assembles the 5 Series at the Chennai plant and earlier this year introduced a new entry-level variant 520i.
