Ssangyong has given Mahindra passes to enter segments above the XUV500. The company has said that the Korando, expected in 2013, will also be placed above the XUV500. The company has saved a lot of time, that it would have otherwise spent on product development, through the acquisition of Ssangyong.

Here is a quick walk around video of the premium SUV.

The Rexton is the first product from Mahindra's South Korean subsidiary to be introduced in India. The 7-seater SUV is sold in Mahindra's dealerships in Mumbai and Delhi with specially trained sales and service teams. Eventually, Mahindra will launch the Rexton in other parts of India.

The Rexton is powered by a five cylinder, 2.7 litre diesel engine which is available in two states of tune - 162 bhp/340 Nm with manual transmission and 184 bhp/402 Nm with automatic transmission.

The front of the car begs to differ from the butch appeal of its competitors like the Toyota Fortuner and Chevrolet Captiva. The profile reminds you of the old Mercedes ML Class on which the Rexton is based. The rear is characterized by the wraparound windshield and Santro-style tail lights.

The quality of materials used for the interior feels premium and the boot has many useful storage compartments.
