Who knew that Mahindra’s ingenious idea of shortening the Xylo’s Genio platform for a makeshift SUV would work wonders for the Indian automaker.

Mahindra Quanto

Diwali sure brought the festive cheer to Mahindra's offices as news of the Quanto mopping up over 10,000 bookings in a span of just 2 months, echoed around the building.

Mahindra spent less than 100 crores modifying the Genio platform to fit a sub-4 meter SUV on it. Testing was done in all parts of India and some parts of northern Europe to make sure that the Quanto is a global vehicle that can be introduced in markets outside India.

Mahindra has big plans for the Quanto and not just in India. Mahindra will launch the Quanto in Europe and South America. Spain will be the first European market to get the Quanto and Brazil will lead the race for South America.

Mahindra brought a 5-seater variant powered by a 2.2L mHawk engine to the 2012 Sao Paulo Motor Show. This variant is likely to hit the South American markets next year.

Back home, we have good reasons to believe that the Quanto’s bull run will continue for an extended period of time. Unlike the Duster which has a rival coming soon (yes, we are talking about the Ford EcoSport), the Quanto, which is a a cocktail of a MPV and an SUV, does not have any rivals in sight. The only competitor in the market, in that price range, is the Premier Rio which is not going to pose any death threats for Mahindra until they expand their sales and service network.
