The car is 39 mm longer than the Brazil and India spec EcoSport, and 9 mm of the excess length comes in the form of an increased wheelbase. There is no sub-four metre norm in China and Ford has decided to give a bit of extra legroom which would be appreciated by the rear-bench-loving Chinese.

The Chinese EcoSport will be powered by the 1.5 litre normally aspirated petrol engine which produces 108.6 bhp of power and 138 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to either a 5-speed manual or 6-speed Powershift automatic gearbox.

The Chinese customers will have to wait at least till mid-2013 for the 1.0L EcoBoost engine variant since the Changan-Ford's joint venture engine plant, which would build turbocharged petrol engines, is still under construction.

The EcoSport is available in China in three variants namely Comfort, Fashion and Titanium. The automatic transmission is available as an option in both mid- and top- level variants. The China-spec Ford EcoSport has a fuel economy figure of 15.38 kmpl and Ford claims that variants equipped with the autobox is equally efficient.

The Ford EcoSport will go on sale in China next month with the estimated price range of 1,00,000 Yuan (around Rs. 8.86 lakhs) to 1,40,00 Yuan (around Rs. 12.41 lakhs).
