Tata Motors is readying an onslaught of products in both passenger and commercial segments.

Tata Y1 Chassis spied

Under the new leadership of ex-GM India CEO Karl Sylm, Tata Motors is preparing to get ready for a no holds barred fight.

Spied over here is a Tata Y1 Series Truck testing in Pune. Our friends at BurnYourFuel report that the cab which is used on the truck is a dummy and the actual one will be highly sophisticated in design.

The future truck gets a new age engine which is used on the Ultra Series of Trucks with capacity ranging from 7-10 tons. It will also have an improved gearbox and an advanced suspension to take on the Indian roads. The same chassis can also be used to build buses specialized application vehicles.

The truck spied over here will be a spiritual successor to the legendary Tata 407 and 709 EX. The 407 has been around for the last 25 years and doubts of its survival are in the air in the wake of newer and more advanced trucks launching in the Indian market. More importantly, with new players such as Bharat Benz, Mahindra Navistar, VECV and MAN entering India, it is going to get increasingly difficult for Tata Motors to retain its market share with the existing range of products.
