The previous generation SX4 was available in hatchback and sedan versions and was jointly developed by Fiat and Suzuki. Fiat sold the rebadged version of the SX4 hatchback called as Sedici. However the new model based on the S-Cross concept will be solely engineered by Suzuki.

The new SX4 hatchback will be larger than the current car and the rumours are rife that it may be underpinned by Kizashi's platform. The next gen SX4 adopts a completely new design direction when compared to the current SX4 which was designed by the famous Italdesign studio.

The new car settles for a conventional rear windshield instead of the wrap around type of the current SX4 hatchback. The sharp angular tail lamps are also entirely new. With twin exhausts and muscular bumpers, the rear of the car looks much more brawny than the model it'll replace.

Suzuki is believed to be considering an array of both petrol and diesel engines with varying capacities form 1.6 litre to 2.0 litre.

The test mules have already surfaced on European roads and a sedan version is also expected to be developement. The new SX4 is will make its debut somewhere in late 2013 or early 2014.
