After the launch of Tata Motors at the Indonesian International Motor Show earlier this year, its Mahindra’s turn to take Indian cars to the global stage.
They may have not launched the brand or the cars in Brazil, but the vehicles presented at the Sao Paulo Auto Show have led to a flurry of reports in the Brazilian media.
Mahindra has not revealed the prices of the cars but have promised that they will be “competitive with the market.” The three models that will arrive in Brazil next year, according to the local media, are the Genio pickup truck, the Quanto and the XUV500.
The Mahindra XUV500 showcased at the Sao Paulo Auto Show is powered by a 140 horsepower diesel engine that puts the power down through an all-wheel drive system. It can accommodate seven passengers and has six airbags.
The Quanto revealed in Brazil permits seating for five passengers and is persuaded forward by a 2.2 L mHawk engine that generates 120 horsepower, which is married to a 5-speed manual transmission. Some of its features are start-stop system, VGT, dual airbags, ABS with EBD and trip computer. The Quanto in India is a 7-seater with a 1.5L diesel engine.
The Genio pickup truck, with a load capacity of 1,260 kg is equipped with safety features such as ABS brakes and dual airbags.
Mahindra officials have stated that it is too early to talk about a new production plant, but have reportedly announced that these models will launch during the second half of 2013.
We’re still waiting for an official announcement or a release from Mahindra to understand their position on the future of these exhibits.
