Nissan is getting ready to launch its Toyota Innova fighter on the 25th of September at New Delhi. Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore launches will happen on subsequent days.

Nissan Evalia with effects

The Evalia, based on the award winning NV200 (Van of the year 2012) is a sliding door seven-seat MPV powered by a 85 bhp 1.5 litre K9K diesel motor.

The car may seem underpowered on paper but at 200 Nm, the torque developed matches that of the Innova while weighing around 250 kg lesser! So, the Evalia won’t be handicapped in terms of performance.

The exterior looks may polarize opinions and the MPV looks as if it values function and practicality over form. That has paid huge dividends when it comes to interior roominess. The Evalia has acres of space and the front wheel drive architecture means there is no transmission tunnel to ruin the comfort of the rear rows.

There are few items on the dashboard that are lifted from the Micra and Sunny parts bin like the steering. The gearshift lever is mounted on the centre console (Hyundai i10 users understand the full benefits) for better ergonomics.

With space as its single biggest trump card, the Evalia will aim for the cheque book of private families rather than commercial operators and will take on the mighty Innova along with the other capable contenders, the Xylo and the Ertiga.

The prices are expected to be in the range of Rs. 9 – Rs. 12 lakhs.
