Ford India is feeding us with details about the much awaited EcoSport, step by step. The official website now divulges the compact SUV’s features list.

New Ford EcoSport

The car is a tech savvy like many of its prospective owners.

Significant among the myriad of electronic gadgetry is the Ford SYNC. It’s nothing but a voice control enabled multimedia interface that can seamlessly connect with mobile and audio devices via Bluetooth or USB. Earlier in 2012 IAB readers were treated to a spyshot of an EcoSport on test with this feature.

The rest are usual features like hill launch assist, keyless entry, ESP, ABS, traction control and so on. The Ford Fiesta, the platform of which underpins the EcoSport, has already introduced these features to India.

Ford’s engineers have done some serious work with the packaging. Despite its sub-four metre length, the EcoSport reportedly contains 20 storage spaces. The glove box also doubles up as a cooler; there is a drawer underneath the front seat and there is also a place to store your umbrella. Ford even claims that you can load a 560 litre washing machine after folding the 60:40 rear seats!

The EcoSport’s single biggest advantage over its rivals, especially the Duster, is its ‘small car’ categorization in India. As Michael Boneham, President & MD of Ford India told IAB, this will enable them to price the EcoSport "very competitively." In comparison with other vehicles in its segment such as the Duster and Ertgia which measures 4.2-4.3 metres long, the EcoSport could be priced lower.

With a pricing that undercuts the Duster, Ford is icing what is already a sweet cake!
