The Ford EcoSport compact SUV made its global debut here in India, earlier this year, but we still have few months before the much anticipated car from Ford to touch down.

Brazil became the first customer for the EcoSport and our neighbours from the dragon land will get it just before us.

Australia is next in line and Ford will give the kangaroo nation a glimpse of the EcoSport at the Australian International Motor show (Oct 19-28) in Sydney.

Powered by the ‘International engine of the year’ (1.0L EcoBoost), the EcoSport will go on sale in Australia by mid-2013 with a starting price less than AUS $25,000 (Rs. 13.91 lakhs).

The EcoSport will be Ford Australia’s cheapest SUV offering and will be positioned below the Ford Territory and Kuga.

Ford Australia’s CEO, Mr. Bob Graziano told: “EcoSport will offer drivers accustomed to small city cars an alternative that delivers driving fun and freedom, compactness and agility, and contemporary SUV styling.”

The 1.0-litre EcoBoost also will make its Australian debut along with the compact crossover. Globally it’s available in 100 bhp and 125 bhp avatar, producing 170 Nm of torque which starts flowing at a commendably low 1,300 rpm.

Whether or not Ford India is expected to build the Australia-bound EcoSport is an unknown.
