After launching the exterior at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo, and the interior at the Beijing Auto Show, the first market that the EcoSport reached was Brazil. Ford is currently testing EcoSport all over the world.

The test mules first emerged in India, followed by China, America and recently Ford confirmed its launch in the European market within 18 months.

Ford India has confirmed an early 2013 launch and through these spyshots sent in by our Pune reader Rohan Patil, more clues on what the Indian edition of EcoSport will sport have come to light.

One of the pictures clearly shows a petrol variant sporting steel rims with wheel covers and non-painted bumpers. This makes us believe that a stripped down entry variant either with the 1.0L EcoBoost engine or a 1.5L petrol engine is undergoing development to assist Ford with a very competitive starting price targeting segment leaders such as the Swift Dzire and Hyundai Verna.

Though Ford is not vocal, we expect the Fiesta's 1.5L diesel engine under its hood. The anticipation is already building up in the market with certain dealers unofficially accepting bookings as the reviews from Brazil were extraordinarily good.

The EcoSport and the Duster are the pick of launches in the current lot, as they can change the face of their parent companies, as well as make Indian companies such as Tata and Mahindra strive harder to produce an equally good future product in the UV segments.
